About Central Internal Medicine

Central Internal Medicine is a two-physician outpatient practice serving the general medical needs of adults ages 18 and up for over 50 years. The practice's hours are 8:30 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Thursday. During after hours, one of the physicians is on call 24/7. The on-call doctor can be reached at (919) 477-7773. The practice accepts most forms of medical insurance including Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and United Healthcare.

Both physicians are board-certified in Internal Medicine, and have been with the practice for over a decade. They have additional experience in geriatrics and long-term care, and they serve as medical directors of local nursing homes.

History of Central Internal Medicine

What was to become Central Internal Medicine originated in 1952 when Dr. Lewis M. McKee, M.D. and Dr. Roy A. Hare, M.D. joined their practices into one office on Broad St. in Durham, NC. In 1964, Dr. Dewey H. Yarley, M.D. came on board, and stayed until his retirement in 1997. Over the years, the practice grew steadily larger and eventually became known as Central Internal Medicine, P.A. in 1979, the same year Dr. Beaty L. Bass, M.D. joined and about the time Dr. McKee retired. A few years later, the combined practice was bursting at the seams and found a larger space as one of the first tenants of Central Medical Park on North Duke St. Dr. Hare retired in 1992, with Dr. William V. Lorimer, M.D. taking his place. Dr. Laura H. Berglund, M.D. became part of our practice a year later. The practice migrated a bit northeast to its current location on Ben Franklin Blvd. in 1997. Dr. Jennifer Q. Liu, M.D. became the latest physician to join our practice in 2000. In November 2009, Dr. Bass retired. In mid-2010, Dr. Liu left the practice to move with her husband to Philadelphia.
